Resumo: ALICE is a general-purpose heavy-ion experiment, aimed at studying nuclear matter under the extreme density and temperature conditions provided by Pb+Pb collisions at LHC. The ALICE detector will be presented, providing some details about the several sub-detectors it is composed of. Next, the talk will focus on the Silicon Strip Detector (SSD), which forms the two outermost layers of the ALICE Inner Tracking System (ITS). The design, the construction and the commissioning of SSD will be presented, providing an example of the path that leads from the conception of a detector to its use for the physics measurements.
