Abstract: The objective of relativistic heavy ion collisions is to investigate the properties of the Quark Gluon Plasma (QGP) created at sufficiently high temperatures and/or densities. For this purpose, heavy quarks, i.e. charm and beauty, are very useful for the characterization of the QGP. They are produced in the early stages of collisions by initial hard scatterings, and therefore experience the complete evolution of the system. However, to quantify the effects of the QGP, it is first necessary to understand the production of heavy quarks in proton-proton collisions as a reference system and also in proton-lead collisions to determine the effects of cold nuclear matter. In particular, the mechanisms of heavy quark production can be studied through their angular correlations that are inherited by their decay, such as electrons. The objective of this project is to study the mechanisms of heavy quark production as a function of the angular correlation between electrons.
